A STATEMENT FROM SUSSEX HEALTHCARE

A spokesperson said;

We firmly reject the allegations made about the care provided to Mr Lynch in 2012. They were investigated back in 2013 by social services, who concluded that although there were some issues relating to Mr Lynch's care, they did not constitute neglect. In fact, the WSCC conclusion was that no further actions were required and the case was closed, with CQC satisfied with the outcomes.

Our management team met with the family of Mr Lynch in October and December 2012. Records show the family agreed that their main concerns had been addressed, family members stated they had seen improvements in their father over the last six months, and they asked the home manager to pass on their thanks to all staff. This is similarly noted in the social services report.

When Mr Lynch was in our care CQC inspected the home twice and found it to be fully compliant with regulatory standards. The most recent CQC report for October 2016 rates the home as Good, noting people were looked after by kind and caring staff who knew them well and how to meet their needs.

Sadly, we do not believe that the comments the BBC has chosen to broadcast represent a fair or accurate account of Mr Lynch's care whilst at Kingsmead Care Centre or of standards in the home generally at that time. We will be lodging a complaint regarding the unfair manner in which the BBC has handled this matter.

We would wish to emphasise that our focus is and always has been to provide the highest-quality care for our residents.
