Redwood House is a spacious country house set in attractive grounds near Horsham in West Sussex overlooking a lake which is home to a large variety of water birds.
This specialist care home provides support and nursing care for adults with physical and learning disabilities.
Philosophy
Our aim is to provide a care home that offers a safe, comfortable environment with support and stimulation to help service users maximise their potential physical, intellectual, emotional and social capacity within an individual person-centred plan. Service users have the right to live as normal a life as possible and to have the respect of those who support them.
Facilities
The two storey house has been skilfully converted to accommodate 10 service users and comprises single rooms, some with en suite bathroom facilities and track hoisting. A lift serves both floors.
The home is closely linked with the local community and able to make use of local colleges, leisure facilities and outreach placements.

Care
Redwood House provides person-centred care to each individual within a homely environment. Qualified nursing care is available on a 24-hour basis.
Therapy Input
Sussex Health Care retain the services of a range of therapists and physiotherapy, speech and language therapy are available as well as complementary therapies such as aromatherapy and reflexology. Expert advice is available on any aspect of a service user’s care, recreational pursuits or environment.
Activities
Everyone has the right to constructive activity and learning new skills and each service user has a key worker who provides advice and support and devises an individual programme plan based on an assessment of needs and preferences. The plan might include a range of possible activities such as:
- basic daily self-care skills and domestic skills
- basic educational and social skills
- individual and small group recreational activities
- basic work experience activities
Although Redwood House has a rural location, transport is provided which enables frequent trips into Horsham and surrounding areas to allow service users to gain experience in social situations and participation in mainstream leisure pursuits.
Every effort is made to enable service users to keep in touch with relatives and friends and volunteer befriending schemes and lay advocacy is encouraged.
Cuisine
Our experienced chef prepares interesting and homely meals with attention to individual requirements and special diets.
Training
Care staff undertake an induction programme of instruction when joining Sussex Health Care. In addition a system of supervision and support for care staff enables them to gain experience and increase their skills. Extensive in-house training is provided by the Sussex Health Care training team and NVQ courses are undertaken in conjunction with local colleges.
