Upper Mead is a tastefully refurbished care home in Henfield West Sussex providing nursing care for older people. With rooms arranged around a courtyard garden, the home is a peaceful and safe setting for service users.

The home has the added benefit of a small separate unit for people with Alzheimer's Disease. Here service users can live in a cosy environment with skilled staff to assist with their special needs.

Philosophy

Our aim is to provide a care home that offers a safe, comfortable environment with support and stimulation to help service users maximise their potential physical, intellectual, emotional and social capacity. Service users have the right to live as normal a life as possible and to have the respect of those who support them.

A friendly and homely atmosphere at Upper Mead ensures that service users are able to continue their lifestyle with personal privacy and dignity. The peace and tranquillity of our lovely home and gardens are enjoyed by our service users and they can be confident of the high standard of care.

Facilities

Upper Mead is a care home with nursing care available 24 hours a day. It provides 40 places for people aged 65 years and over and a further 8 places for people aged 65 years and over who are mentally frail with dementia or Alzheimer's Disease. The accommodation comprises single rooms or one double room, most with en suite facilities. There are three lounges, a quiet room and a spacious dining room all with splendid views of the gardens.

Care

We provide care 24 hours a day by qualified staff under the personal supervision of the Registered Manager. Nursing care is available 24 hours a day. Local GPs visit the home regularly and are on call at all times.

Therapy Input

Sussex Health Care retain the services of a range of therapists and physiotherapy, occupational therapy and reflexology are available on request. Experts are available to advise on any aspect of a service users care, recreational pursuits or environment.

Activities

The Activities programme is one of the most important aspects of life at Upper Mead. A huge range of activities are undertaken by the service users of Sussex Health Care, including handicrafts, quizzes, reminiscence sessions, music and movement, cookery and art. The key aims of the programme are provision of mental stimulation, continuation of hobbies and interests and prolonging mobility.

Cuisine

Our experienced chef prepares interesting and homely cuisine with attention to individual requirements and any special diets. Mealtimes are an important social interlude at Upper Mead and great care is taken to ensure that meals are attractively presented and elegantly served.

Training

Care staff undertake an induction programme of instruction when joining Sussex Health Care. In addition, a system of supervision and support for care staff enables them to gain experience and increase their skills. Extensive in-house training is provided by the Sussex Health Care training team and NVQ courses are undertaken in conjunction with local colleges.

Upper Mead is located in Henfield just off the A281 a few miles north-west of Brighton.
