Woodhurst Lodge, is a brand new purpose built facility for people with long term health care conditions including neurological conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone Disease, Huntington’s Disease, Acquired Brain Injury and Cerebral Palsy.
This specialist care service with nursing and physiotherapy facilities has been equipped with all the latest technological aids and provides a safe, comfortable, homely environment for our service users.
Philosophy
Our aim is to provide a Care Home with nursing support that offers support and stimulation to help service users maximise their potential physical, intellectual, emotional and social capacity within an individual person-centred plan. Service users have the right to live as normal a life as possible and to have the respect of those who support them.
Person-Centred Planning is at the forefront of our philosophy with the service users’ needs and wishes at the centre of our service.
Facilities
Woodhurst Lodge is a specialist adult care facility providing 10 places for people with neurological conditions and acquired brain injury. The single story development has 10 single en suite rooms with WC and shower and is fitted with a track hoist system.
The rooms are set in beautiful landscaped gardens, giving a tranquil setting. The home provides spacious accommodation throughout.

Care and Nursing
The home is registered to provide nursing and residential care. Specialist nursing care is available 24 hours a day throughout the home supported by a team of dedicated carers. The focus of the care and support is based on our person-centred philosophy.
Therapy Input
Sussex Health Care retains the services of a range of therapists including physiotherapists, speech & language therapists, occupational therapists and expert advice is available on any aspect of a service user’s care, recreational pursuits or environment; psychological support is also available.
Activities
Woodhurst Lodge has the benefit of an Activity Organiser, who devises and carries out personalised activity plans, alongside the service user’s key worker.
The many activities include alternative and complementary therapies, dance and movement, music, arts and crafts, cooking, hydrotherapy and swimming.
Service users benefit from the use of their own specially adapted vehicles for outings and sporting activities.
Participation in further education and leisure activities at local colleges and outreach facilities are available to all service users. Every effort is made to enable service users to keep in touch with relatives and friends. Advocacy and volunteer befriending schemes are encouraged.
Training
All staff undertake an induction programme of instruction when joining Sussex Health Care. In addition, a system of supervision and support for care staff enables them to gain experience and increase their skills.
Extensive in-house training is provided by the Sussex Health Care training team and NVQ courses are undertaken in conjunction with the local colleges.
Assistive Technology
We are always researching into ways to improve our service users' lifestyle. We are trying to offer a chance for service users to be in control of their environment and increase independence for those who may be totally dependent on others to do everyday tasks. Tasks you or I take for granted.
We are able to offer this new innovative “Assistive Technology” service which will enable our service users to answer the door, draw their own curtains, make their own phone calls, switch on their own lights, or even just turn on the TV; and by gaining the capacity to do these everyday things is inspiring, exciting and can transform impact on individuals' lives.
